The first official thrashing in LAFC history has happened. Diego Rossi led the way with two goals against Real Salt Lake, and the MLS’ new team appears to be on its way to becoming a force.

The Los Angeles club fell behind with a goal from Joao Plata, but quickly took the lead with a pair of goals from the two attacking wings of LA in Latif Blessing and Diego Rossi. The team continued to improve as the match wore on as the chemistry of the Los Angeles grew. Benny Feilhaber was able to put LAFC into a comfortable position by increasing the lead to 3-1 early in the second half by a play started from Diego Rossi and Steven Beitashour. The Los Angeles side was also more accurate with its opportunities by having 11 of its shots on target of 21 overall compared to the 6 on target from RSL to its also 21 in total. Rossi then further pushed the lead by again displaying patience in front of goal. Carlos Vela finished the day with a chip that demonstrated his brilliance and was his first of the season.

As was mentioned in my last piece, Los Angeles will be in every game if Rossi and Vela play to the best of their abilities and the chemistry between them continues to grow. Diego Rossi was electric, involving himself in every goal his squad scored. The other MLS’ sides will take notice of Rossi’s skill and adjustments will be made to better cover the young player. Diego recently turned 20 this past week, and his growth will be an area of focus for Los Angeles and will also be taken notice by European squads and the Uruguay National Team as a potential future star.

LAFC will play its next match until the final day of March, taking on their Los Angeles counterpart LA Galaxy in the first clash by the two Southern California teams. Carlos Vela will be facing his other two Mexican teammates, Giovanni and Jonathan Dos Santos. Mexico will have two friendly matches at the end of March, therefore fans of both Los Angeles club will have to wait to determine the availability of their star players.
