NXT review: Johnny Gargano leaves NXT for good

Johnny Gargano’s Swan Song

I am holding my Kayfabe tears while writing this recap of last night’s episode of NXT. Johnny Wrestling lost to Andrade “Cien” Almas in a bid to win the NXT Championship. Sadly because of this loss, Johnny has to leave NXT for good.

In this great match, Johnny was on the verge of winning until Tommaso Ciampa interfered and hit Johnny with his crutch, leading Almas to hit Johnny with the Hammerlock DDT.

Ciampa is reaching scorching heat levels as the crowd laid into him. We knew that Ciampa was going to show up but none of us wanted it to happen. As Johnny was sitting in the middle of the ring with his wife, the crowd went into a frenzy asking Gargano not to leave. As he hit the ramp, the camera cut to Ciampa waving bye to his former partner with evil intent in his eyes. The build for Ciampa v Gargano has been amazing, I wonder how NXT will get Johnny back for them to have a grudge match at NXT Takeover: NOLA. The best story in wrestling has gotten even better.

Quick Hits

I have seen a change in WWE’s landscape in 2018. NXT is producing the best storylines/angles in the company, Raw is producing consistent sports entertainment, 205 Live is producing the most consistent in-ring wrestling in WWE and Smackdown, and well SmackDown is at least trying.

Velveteen Dream impresses the NXT universe again with his match against No Way Jose. Momentum is on Dream’s side as he looks to clash with Tyler Bate next.

William Regal announces that The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic (YES!) starts in two weeks, with the winner facing the Undisputed ERA at TakeOver: NOLA. We know that Authors of Pain, TM61, Street Profits and Heavy Machinery are in the tournament; I wonder who will fill out the rest of the bracket.

Kairi Sane vs. Shayna Bazler will highlight next week’s episode of NXT as the winner will most likely face Ember Moon at Takeover: NOLA. Kairi Sane saved Ember last week from further damage on her arm from Shayna. This rematch of the Mae Young Finals should be a great main event.
