It ain’t her booty, it’s her beauty: Tracee Ellis Ross & 2018’s Fashion Trends
Even if you’ve never seen Girlfriends or Black-ish, you’re probably living under a rock if you haven’t witnessed the glory of Tracee Ellis Ross. Before he became a Kardashian, Kanye even gave her a cameo in the ‘Touch the Sky’ video, showcasing her, um, assets (au naturale, by the way).
We’ve all become enamored with her in our own ways, but what we can all agree on is that she’s a fashion icon. Therefore, it’s only right to start off 2018 paying homage to one of the best to ever put together an ensemble.
Most people only know her as Joan the lawyer friend or Rainbow the doctor mom, but Tracee has been an icon long before she met Lynn, Maya, and Toni. At a very young age, she was a model effortlessly stalking runways in Italy and France. Born into queendom with a mom like Diana Ross would intimidate most of us, but she’s made a name all her own. She’s been stunning her entire life, but also a woman of brilliance and compassion who lives life with no net. “I’m going to pay attention to the reality of my life and the audacity of my dreams instead of the expectation I was raised with,” Ross spoke in a recent speech at a GLAMOUR Magazine event.
Not only is she sickening in a pants suit but she’s a model for living your best life and not letting expectations mold you. She channels this fearlessness into her fashions, so here are a few looks that are on-par with this season’s current fashion trends:
Metallic is definitely in, so bring those Puff and Ma$e shiny suits back out. Yall remember the Platinum Fubu shiny denim? It’s your time. Take that, take that.
Plaid is a pattern we’ll be seeing a lot more of in 2018. Go chop down some trees, but make it fashion. Oxblood and cobalt blue is also a timeless color combo that will get more shine.
Have some good times with the James Evans-esque stylings of corduroy and flares. This warm and durable fabric is making its way back into our hearts, while flares are giving us a chance to give some, well, flair. Beading and fringes are showing that the little details haven’t been forgotten. Our Pelle Pelle jacket brethren have stayed true to this lifestyle.
Nothing beats a simple black suit with just a pop of color. This is a clean look that will always be in style. The bold embellishments on the shoes will be big this year as well; be looking for large bows, flowery displays, and everything in between.
